Last night we were the special guests of the multi-talented Nicky Slater for the finale of ITV's Dancing on Ice. Nicky is one of five celebrity judges on the show, which is sorta an American Idol meets the X Factor meets, um, Ice Dancing.
Although we haven't been following the series as closely as we did last year, and I don't enjoy having to give a standing ovation every 3.5 minutes every-time a new ice dance is performed, I did enjoy the lights, the cameras, the pyrotechnics, and the FREE DONUTS!!
As we talked with Nicky for a little while, I noticed he carried a small black book (although I don't think it was Molskine). I started to think, man there'd be lots of ice dancing fans that would find that black book very interesting. I mean, this ice dancer crowd is a passionate lot, and to be able to page through a judge's comments, scribbles, cartoons of other judges-- yeah there'd be more than a few buyers for it.
So I started plotting how to get that book. Should we go to the bar with Nicky, slip something in his drink, and then just take off with the book? Do I ask the guy if I can borrow the book for a few days, then never give it back? I mean, I still have his autobiography from when I was researching an interview I did with him for American TV.
I could have always just taken a cell phone picture of each page. Or I could have just wandered over to the ice panel desk when the judges were on break during a commercial. Man I could have had all five of those books.
But hey, my conscience got in the way, having faith and all. So I will do the more appropriate thing: blog about the possibilities, and encourage Nicky to persevere and create new opportunities to spread the word.
